Subodh Gupta

Dr. Subodh S Gupta, a medical graduate from MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur, did MD in Pediatrics from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He is also a Diplomat of National Board in Maternal and Child Health, and Social and Preventive Medicine.

A pediatrician by training, he sought a career in Public Health with a firm belief that strong community-based health services should form the backbone of health care delivery. This conviction made him quit Pediatrics and do senior residency in Community Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

He joined MGIMS in 1997, and is currently Professor of Social Pediatrics. He has been involved in developing innovative community-based strategies and programs such as family life education for school-going and non-school going adolescents, Parenting Workshop and On-going training program for Anganwadi workers in Non-formal education.

He has developed and implemented several innovative community-based strategies and programs in the areas of Home based Management for Childhood Illness, Early Childhood Care and Development, Family Life Education, Parenting Education and Community-based Monitoring of Maternal and Child Health Services. This rich experience helped him learn approaches to and strategies for community empowerment. He has also developed a strong background and interest in statistics, research methodology and computer packages.

Teaching apart, he has also been involved in implementation of community-based education program and training of district medical officers and other health providers on issues related to public health. 

His areas of interest include early childhood development, home-based management for illnesses during childhood, school health program, adolescent health, and community empowerment.

He is also a recipient of FAIMER Fellowship for medical teachers and Salzburg Fellowship for Early Childhood Care and Development
