On 10th June 2018, the 3rd cycle of advanced course in prevention and management of diabetes and cardiovascular disease was inaugurated at the seminar room of the department of Medicine at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram. Dr AP Jain (Emeritus Professor of Department of Medicine) was the key person and chief faculty of the course.
Dr Rajeev Borle (Vice Chancellor, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences, Sawangi) was the chief guest who presided over the function. Dr Tanushree Soni, (Program Coordinator, Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi) also attended the function. Other revered faculty like Dr OP Gupta (Emeritus Professor of Medicine), Dr Ram Ghodeswar (Consultant Cardiologist) and Dr Jyoti Jain (Head of Department of Medicine) were present on the occasion. Dr KR Patond (Dean MGIMS) and Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society) also graced the dais with their presence.
25 participants from all across the nation attended the session. Dr AP Jain introduced the course with a brief overview. “This Advanced Course in Prevention and Management of Diabetes and Cardio Vascular Diseases would be a modular course with 6 modules presented monthly. Each module would begin with a pretest and end with a post-test questionnaire to assess the effectivity of the course”, clarified Dr AP Jain. He also emphasized to keep the course interactive to make it interesting and yielding. Dr Rajeev Borle, in his speech stressed the relevance of the course and congratulated Dr Jain and PHFI to make it a reality. Dr Tanushree Soni portrayed the activities and initiatives of PHFI in a short video clip which was quite informative. She also cleared the doubts and questions of the participants regarding the course and other initiatives of PHFI.
“This course is much needed to sensitize the young doctors regarding the epidemic of non-communicable diseases and thereby contributing to the upliftment of the society”, stressed Dr Jyoti Jain. Dean and Secretary welcomed the course and stated that initiatives like this add to the glory of the institute and create awareness regarding the giants of non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Dr Ram Ghodeswar conducted the first module of the course with his pearls of wisdom. Dr AP Jain threw light on the important topics like Pre Diabetes ,Metabolic syndrome and introduced the new concept of continuous glucose monitoring for better control of diabetes. The session was followed by the post test questionnaire and discussion of the answers. All the participants gave positive feedback that the session was informative and well conducted.
