On 26 January 2019, MGIMS celebrated the 70th Republic day. The Tricolour on Saturday fluttered proudly at the sports ground at MGIMS amid melodious strains of the national anthem as hundreds of students, nurses, paramedics, staff and faculty gathered to celebrate the country's 70th Republic Day.
Dr Amber Dixit —a 2013 batch MGIMS alumnus and now an intern—unfurled the Tricolour. Adjudged the best sportsperson of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences for his prowess in basketball, and having captained the basketball team in Maharashtra State Inter-University Krida Mahotsav, Amber earned this honor. Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President KHS), Dr BS Garg (Secretary KHS), Dr NM Gangane (Dean MGIMS), Dr SP Kalantri (Medical superintendent Kasturba Hospital) Mrs Ancy Ramesh (Principal Nursing College), Mrs Sadhana Thakre (Principal, Kasturba Nursing School), Mrs A Hivare (Principal, Kasturba Vidya Mandir), faculty, staff and students attended the program.
Vibrant parade and cultural events highlighting the culture and traditions of India were showcased. Students from the school, nursing school and medical college sang patriotic songs. A bunch of students dressed up as Gandhi, Nehru, Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, and evoked a sense of pride amongst the audience.
As 2019 marks the occasion of golden jubilee celebration of the institute and 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Dhirubhai Mehta laid focus on Gandhi’s principle of Ahimsa. He quoted the ‘Seven Sins’ from Gandhian philosophy and advocated its implementation into one’s cores. The program ended with the national anthem and a grand salute to the Tiranga.
