World Health Day celebrated

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS) celebrated the World Health Day 2019 on 7 April 2019.

An exhibition of posters on the current world health day theme, Universal Health Coverage, was organized with posters from the Kasturba Nursing School and Kasturba Nursing College. This exhibition was inaugurated by Dr BS Garg, Secretary, KHS.

A symposium was held on Universal Health Coverage. Faculty and residents of the Department of Community Medicine participated. Dr Sourav Goswami, Assistant Professor, presented the concept of Universal Health Coverage. Dr Shiv Joshi, Junior Resident, spoke on the financial aspect of Universal Health Coverage. Dr Anupriya Jha, Junior Resident, spoke on Monitoring of Universal Health Coverage. Dr Rutuja Kolhe, Junior Resident, spoke on Universal Health Coverage in other countries covering Sri Lanka and Brazil. Dr Sarin Kumar, Junior Resident, spoke about the Universal Health Coverage in India.

Role plays were organized by the students of MGIMS and Kasturba Nursing School (KNS). The students from MGIMS portrayed the issues related to the policies in health and how there is a disconnect between the policies and the realities in the grassroot level. They also started a signature campaign to appeal to the government to focus resources and their attention on Universal Health Coverage. More than 120 signatures were obtained. The students from the KNS portrayed various issues related to sanitation, environment and Health. 

Dr BS Garg, appealed to start thinking about Universal Health Coverage from the Indian perspective as our needs are very different from that of the western world.

Dr Ashwini Kalantri, Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, proposed the vote of thanks. Mr PV Bahulaker conducted the function. The function concluded with National Anthem.
