President Kovind to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of MGIMS

President Shri Ram Nath Kovind will commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences on 17th August. An array of dignitaries including Governor Shri C. Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis shall also grace the occasion.

MGIMS has recently constructed an auditorium as a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the institute. President shall inaugurate the auditorium in the august presence of the dignitaries. This auditorium with a seating capacity of 750 is housed in Swarna Jayanti Sabhagar complex of the institute.

Beginning 1969, several principals and deans have led the institute. President shall felicitate the Ex-deans of the institute - Dr OP Gupta, Dr P Narang, Dr S Chabbra, Dr BS Garg and Dr KR Patond - for their enormous contribution in the making of MGIMS today.

“MGIMS is celebrating its 50th year of success, growth and transformation. The institute is a testament of rich history, heritage and high academic and research standards. The institute is also known worldwide for its quality healthcare and community based medical education. Dr Sushila Nayar founded MGIMS in 1969 as a Gandhi centenary project.  We strive hard to produce highly trained and motivated doctors with roots in the rural community. Today, the institute is proud having groomed 4000 doctors who are settled in every nook and corner of the world”, told Shri Dhirubhai Mehta, President of Kasturba Health Society, which runs the institute.

Speaking about the yearlong celebrations, Dean Dr N Gangane informed, “As a part of the Golden Jubilee year of the institute, several national and international conferences were organized.  Blood donation camps were also held round the year. Alumni contributed a generous amount of 15 million for their alma mater. They shall visit their alma mater on 11th September. This alumni day shall mark the culmination of the golden jubilee year of the institute”.

“This 50th anniversary is an appreciation of all the associates, students and alumni for helping us get where we are today”, expressed Dr BS Garg, Secretary of Kasturba Health Society.

“In last five decades, the hospital has grown from a 15 bedded hospital to a 934 bedded one”, correlated Dr SP Kalantri, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital. “Our services have multiplied many folds but our roots still remain in the rural community health”, he added.
