Dr KR Patond conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award by Hon'ble Minister of State Shri Ranjit Patil

Dr KR Patond, Director Professor of Orthopedics and Ex-Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram is conferred with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in hands of Dr Ranjit Patil (Hon'ble Maharashtra Minister of State for Home and Guardian Minister of Akola District). Vidarbha Orthopedics Society awarded Dr Patond for his exemplary contribution in the field of Orthopedics. On 19-20th October 2019, Vidarbha Orthopedics Society (VOS) and Akola Orthopedic Society (AOS) jointly organized the 38th Annual Vidarbha Orthopaedic Society conference, VOSCON 2019 at Akola. Dr Ranjit Patil, Maharashtra Minister of State for Home and Guardian Minister of Akola District was the chief guest of the inauguration ceremony. Dr Mahendra Kale (President, VOS), Dr Nirbhay Karandikar (Secretary VOS), Dr Ashok Lawange (Member of Award committee), Dr Shivshankar (President-Elect Indian Orthopaedic Association), Dr Gadegone (President –Elect Maharashtra Orthopaedic Association), Dr Avinash Patil (Executive Member,Maharashtra Orthopaedic Association), Dr Shailesh Deshmukh and Dr Ranjit Deshmukh (Organizing Secretary, VOSCON 2019) were present during the award ceremony. ’Learning From the past and looking into the future’ - was the theme of VOSCON 2019.

Vidarbha Orthopedics Society felicitates an Orthopedic veteran who has enormously contributed in the field of orthopedics and has demonstrated lifetime commitment by unparalleled dedication to profession, leadership and service which has established the recipient as an inspiration and role model to many in the speciality. In last 38 years, VOS has awarded Dr SS Babhulkar, Dr Satish Kale, Dr MM Rathi, Dr NK Saxena, Dr Anil Golhar, Dr CN Kulkarni and Dr WM Gadegone with this prestigious award. 

“Work of Dr Patond has touched all aspects and facets of profession, from joint replacement to the reconstructive surgeries on leprosy patients. He has operated more than 1000 patients of leprosy at MGIMS Sevagram, Anandwan, District hospital of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli to correct claw hand deformities of fingers, hands, footdrop, lagophthalmous, plantar ulcer, nerve abscess and other orthopedics problems. Baba Amte once called him 'a man with eloquent hands (bolke hath)' at a surgery camp at Anandwan”, recalls Dr Kale during the award presentation ceremony.

“This life time achievement award is humble appreciation of the contribution of Dr Patond till date to the filed of orthopedics, to his extraordinary skills and wisdom”, says Dr Ranjit Deshmukh.

“I share this award with all and everyone who made me stand here before you all including the department of Orthopaedic MGIMS Sevagram and my patients who might have suffered due to error of judgment on my part. I feel the best way to celebrate the past is to strive for a better future. I extend the credit of this award to the vision and mission of Hon’ble Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President Kasturba Health Society). At the end this could not have been made possible without love and support from my family Sau. Manda, my Son Dr Swapnil, Daughter-in- Law Dr Varsha, Grandson Darsh and Granddaughter Anvika who instilled me the confidence and support, I needed at the time when I did not believe in myself ”, said Dr Patond.
