Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram was recently awarded with the Hospital Infection Control (HIC) Championship 2020 Award. This championship was conducted the by Department of Microbiology & Hospital Infection Control Committee, JIPMER, Puducherry. Total 24 institutes, both from government and private sector participated in the HIC Championship. AIIMS Raipur secured the numero uno position followed by MGIMS and AIIMS Patna.
All the participating institutes had to submit the presentation with supported documents about the detail of their HIC activities under various areas of assessment such as establishing HIC team, educational activity, hand hygiene, HAI surveillance, needle stick injury management, hepatitis B vaccination among HCWs, environmental surveillance, HICC meetings, and research in HIC.
The award ceremony was held on 1st February 2020 during the 4th National Workshop on Hospital Infection Control held at JIPMER. HIC Championship 2020 consisted of the award, cash prize and certificate.
Dr Vijayshree Deotale (Head of Microbiology and In-Charge of Hospital infection Control of Kasturba Hospital and Secretary of HICC) said, “I am happy and feel confident that our infection control team is ensuring safe healthcare environment for our patients and employees. We investigate the infection and develop infection control procedures for all departments, staff, patient, biomedical waste management, etc. Such championships help in establishing best practices in infection control in the hospital”. She acknowledges the support of Dr Ruchita Attal (Associate Professor of Microbiology) and Infection control Nurses (Ms Surekha Gawali Ms Anita Kadam and Ms Bhagyshree Gawai) to overcome the infection prevention in the hospital.
