Dr Nikhilesh Chandra (Director, CGHS, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India) is visiting MGIMS on 5 April 2022 to assess the role played by the hospital in celebrating the Swachhata Pakhwada, the cleanliness fortnight. At the behest of the Government of India, medical institutes and hospitals, countrywide, are celebrating Swachhata Pakhwada—a clean India mission—in the hospitals. During his two-day stay at MGIMS, Dr Chandra shall assess how MGIMS is using this campaign to keep its premises clean.
Kasturba Health Society’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kasturba Hospital, Kasturba Nursing College, Kasturba Nursing School and peripheral centers are observing a fortnight-long ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ in their premises from 1 April - 15 April 2022. Faculty, Staff, medical students, nursing students, Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, Women’s Self Help Group members, Kiran clinic committee members, members of Village Health Nutrition and Sanitation committee (VHNSC), and Kishori Panchayat members are participating in the Swachhata Abhiyaan with an objective of disseminating the message of Swachha Bharat widely.
During the Swachhata fortnight, the hospital has designed a massive cleaning drive across the hospital wards and hospital premises. Several activities like Swachhata Pledge, cleanliness of surrounding, swachhata awareness campaign at community level (hand washing demonstration and health talks on personal hygiene, safe water, sanitation, anti-tobacco and anti-spitting), sensitization workshop on bio-medical waste management, training of staff for infection control, disposal of waste, beautification of premises and gardens, poster exhibition, essay, and poster competition, role play on Swachhata for sensitizing visitors at Kasturba Hospital and Swachhata rally are getting organized as a part of the pakhwada.
