Graduation Ceremony of Class of 2016 held

On the 23rd of April 2022, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS) held its annual graduation ceremony, celebrating the accomplishments of 100 graduating students of the class of 2016.

Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President, Kasturba Health Society) and the Chief guest of the ceremony, Mr PL Tapadiya (Vice President, Kasturba Health Society), Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society respectively), Dr N Gangane (Dean, MGIMS), Dr. Satish Kumar (Officer- In- Charge Students’ Council), faculty, staff, students, and family assembled in the auditorium of the institute to award the degree certificates to the MGIMS class of 2016.

In his welcome address, Dean Dr Gangane congratulated the graduating batch. He commended the class of 2016 for being exceptionally socially responsible and for their effort in going beyond their call of duty during covid waves. “You are the ambassadors of MGIMS. Endeavor to stay firm to the values you have learned at this institute”, Dr Gangane reminded the students.

Shri Dhirubhai Mehta and Shri PL Tapadiya awarded the degree certificates to the new doctors and congratulated them the best in their future endeavors. The atmosphere was charged with emotions and excitement as the students donned the graduation regalia walked up to the stage and collected their degrees and certificates.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Dhirubhai Mehta vouched that the MGIMS graduates are sensitive to the felt needs of the community. “MGIMS is synonymous with honesty, austerity, ethical and selfless services and I am proud to say that out of nearly 500 medical schools in our country, MGIMS is one of the only three institutes to be identified for this set of values.” Shri Mehta recalled the President of India’s remark when he acknowledged MGIMS’s effort in serving the community. He also brought to everybody’s attention the government of India’s report to parliament that has stated - ‘MGIMS is conscious of the fact that medical education needs to maintain the right balance in the eternal triangle of ‘quality, quantity, and equity. In its perennial quest to attain the perfect blend, it never forgets that these three arms are not in conflict, and equity cannot be kept in abeyance’.

Shri PL Tapadiya in his address called MGIMS a launching point for kick-starting the medical journey for students of 2016 batch. He acknowledged the effort of management, faculty and the institute’s clinical materials in shaping a holistic learning environment for students. “I am confident that you all shall abide by the values inculcated in you during your graduating years and honor them as you tread ahead in your journey”, said Shri Tapadiya.

The class of 2016 swore to the Hippocratic Oath attributed to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates before their peers, family, friends, and mentors. Dr. Satish Kumar administered them the famous oath. “The oath is a strong reminder that the doctors must serve mankind unconditionally and teach the secrets of medicine to the next generation”, reminded Dr Satish Kumar.

Dr Utkarsha and Dr Sahil, graduating students from the 2016 batch reflected on their journeys with MGIMS. “MGIMS has taught me to look at a patient and see a person in him, and to make every effort to bring the best in care to him”, said Dr Utkarsha. Dr Sahil reminisced his first day of Social Service Camp and said that he felt honored to be a part of the institute that equipped him with the necessary set of skills required to be a good doctor.

The program ended with a vote of thanks and national anthem.
