Department of Microbiology hosts Preanalytical best practices and Phlebotomy training programme

On 14-15th September 2015, department of Microbiology conducted a training for technical group under the ‘Labs for Life’ project. An initiative made by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, this project aims in improving the quality of laboratory services, building sustainable laboratory systems, and strengthening country owned institutions within the public health sector.

The Labs for Life Project is designed to enhance capacity for diagnosis of communicable and non-communicable diseases. It also supports activities to improve quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of Regional Laboratories under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW).This project is sought to create model laboratories in 10 districts in seven states of India.

A total of 30 participants from MGIMS and District hospital, Wardha were present at the training programme. The training on ‘preanalytical best practices and phlebotomy’ was given to the technical staff of the departments of Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry along with their faculty members. After receiving this training, these staff are expected to disseminate their technical skills to other staff aiming to train more and more people and thereby improving the quality of laboratory services.

Dr Vijayshri Deotale, Head of Department of Microbiology and Nodal Officer of the project ‘Labs for Life’ was gratified to be the part of such training programme. She also expressed her gratitude towards Dr MVR Reddy, Head of Department of Biochemistry and Dr N Gangane, Head of Department of Pathology for their contributions in making the training programme a success.
