MGIMS hosts a talk on occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

On 14th October 2015, Kasturba Breast Cancer Club and Academy of Medical Sciences of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram jointly organized a guest lecture of Dr Ajay Mehta - a renowned Oncosurgeon and Director, Central India Cancer Institute Nagpur on the topic “Changing Paradigm in Breast Cancer Management”.  In this program the survivors of Breast Cancer, their relatives and members of Kasturba Breast Cancer Club along with the faculty and students were invited.

Dr Ruchi Kothari, Secretary, Academy of Medical Sciences, MGIMS welcomed all the guests and students with traditional Sutgundi & flower bouquet. Dr B.S. Garg, Secretary, Kasturba Health Society, Dr Virendra J. Vyas, Secretary, Kasturba Breast Cancer Club and President of Academy of Medical Sciences, Dr R. Narang, Chairman Kasturba Breast Cancer Club, Mrs. Manjiri Joshi, Coordinator of Sanjeevani – Life beyond Cancer were present on the dias.

Dr Virendra J. Vyas introduced the objective of the program. Dr BS Garg emphasized on awareness for early detection of breast cancer as the key for successful treatment. Dr Ajay Mehta spoke on various recent techniques of treatment of breast cancer.  After the lecture of Dr Ajay Mehta, a public forum was organized for Breast Cancer survivors and their relatives. During this program Mrs. Manjiri Joshi, Coordinator of Sanjeevani – Life beyond Cancer elaborated on how to boost the morale of breast cancer patients. Dr R. Narang, Chairman Kasturba Breast Cancer Club and Dr Virendra J. Vyas Chief of Cancer Unit, Kasturba Hospital also addressed the gathering. During this program Dr Sudha Jain and Dr Anuradha  Khandekar shared their experiences with breast cancer.

Dr V Vyas, Head of Department of Radiotherapy and President of Academy of Medical Sciences expressed his gratitude towards Dr Mehta for the informative session and also thanked Dr Manish Gupta, Dr Ashok Singh, Dr Dipika Malik, Dr Manoj Birajdar, Mrs. Bharati Mahindrakar, Mrs. Vaishali Kadu, Mrs. Sangita Atram, Mrs. Madhuri Chirkute, Mr. Zatin Mathi, Mr. Vinod Hatekar, Mr. Girish Mahakalkar, Mr. Rajesh Shende for putting their efforts in the success of the program.
