NELS Skill Lab completed its National ToT for paramedics

The NELS Skill Lab under the Department of Anaesthesia, MGIMS Sewagram completed the National Training of Trainers (ToT) course for paramedics from January 29 to January 31, 2025. A total of 28 trainee participants, including faculty members and nurses from Government Medical Colleges in Solapur, Nanded, Akola, Nagpur, Yavatmal, and MGIMS Sewagram, took part in this intensive training.

The National Emergency Life Support (NELS) Course, an initiative by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India, is designed to train doctors, nurses, and paramedics in essential life support skills for managing medical, surgical, trauma, obstetric, and paediatric emergencies in healthcare facilities and the community.

“The program is structured in three versions catering to doctors, nurses, and paramedics to ensure comprehensive emergency preparedness. The program also featured a mock drill for ambulance transfer of critically ill patients to enhance practical emergency response skills”, said Dr Dhiraj Bhandari (Professor of Anesthesia, MGIMS)

The ToT course was conducted under the MOHFW, Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) Division, JPNTAC AIIMS New Delhi, and WHO Collaborating Centre for Trauma at AIIMS New Delhi, in collaboration with the NELS Skill Lab Centre at MGIMS Sewagram. Trainers were drawn from AIIMS New Delhi and MGIMS Sewagram to maintain the highest standards of instruction and skill transfer.

“We take pride in mentioning that the NELS Skill Lab at MGIMS has been designated to mentor other NELS Skill Labs in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Goa. Additionally, MGIMS is now the first skill lab in Maharashtra and the third in the country to complete the NELS ToT for all three designated courses—Doctors, Nurses, and Paramedics”, informed Dr Sucheta Tidke (Head of Anaesthesia, MGIMS).
