Dhiraj Bhandari

Dr Dhiraj Bhandari ( MGIMS alumus , class of 1999) completed his MBBS and MD in Anesthesiology from MGIMS. He later obtained DNB and did his Post-doctoral Certificate Courses in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He learned the skills of doing transesophageal echocardiography there and also acquired skills for managing neonates, infants, and paediatric patients with heart diseases.

He later on went to pursue his keen interest in critical care by enrolling in Indian Diploma in Critical Care Medicine (IDCCM). Dhiraj secured first position in the IDCCM examination, thus acquiring the distinction of being the best performing candidate in the examination. He was endowed with the late Dr Vijayalaxmi Kamat Memorial Award for this outstanding performance. Privileged to have Dr. Ram Rajagopalan, Chennai as his mentor, he learnt to manage various medically and surgically critically ill patients, as also the art of bedside ultrasonography, echocardiography in ICU, Ventilating patients with ARDS including prone ventilation and practiced various ICU procedures like temporary transvenous pacing and percutaneous tracheostomy.

An American Heart Association (AHA) certified ACLS and BLS instructor, Dr. Dhiraj has presented papers at national conferences and also at SAARC Anesthesiology conference. He has published six papers. He has been faculty at few workshops and CMEs.

Dr. Dhiraj takes keen interest in regional anaesthesia and anaesthetizing sicker patients . He wishes to develop critical care medicine in the department and also wishes to create awareness about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and CPR training.
