Ramesh Kumar Pandey

Dr Rameshkumar Pandey is an MGIMS alumnus (batch of 1989) - he obtained MBBS and MS (Surgery) from Nagpur University. He was awarded a bronze medal in Physiology. A life member of Association of Surgeons of India and Association of Colo-rectal Surgeons of India, he moved to Mumbai soon after post graduation, where he worked as a surgical consultant in a private facility. During these years, he not only sharpened his surgical skills but also learned the art and science of hospital management. A surgeon with a deep sense of duty and dedication towards underprivileged, he subsequently worked in charity hospitals in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. He used his rich surgical experience to manage patients with diverse surgical problems in resource retrained settings. He enjoyed excellent doctor-patient relationship in the communities, and offered free surgical service to the tribal population he served, a virtue that made Sahara TV crew interview him and showcase his work to the world.

A firm believer in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), Dr Pandey also served as a district head of the doctor’s forum of Patanjali Yog Samiti and conducted numerous yoga and health camps. Since long he has been exploring how to incorporate yoga into the cancer surgery as an add-on therapy. His passion for tying academic work with pro-people healthcare made him re-join the department of Surgery at MGIMS in 2010, where in addition to routine operations, he also performs laparoscopic and colo-rectal surgery. At MGIMS, he has been entrusted with the responsibility of looking after the medical store of the hospital and the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) - responsibilities he has been handling with great aplomb. Dr Pandey took charge as the deputy Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital since January 2023.
