Sudha Jain

Professor

Dr Sudha Jain obtained MD in Anaesthesiology in 1985 from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Nagpur and joined MGIMS in 1985. She served MGIMS as lecturer and reader till 1993 and moved to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Sawangi where she worked as professor and head of the department of Anaesthesiology between 1993 and 1995.

She moved to Seoni (M P) and worked for National Leprosy Elimination Programme for three years and was awarded certificate of appreciation by MP state. During 1999-2001, she also served as medical officer and in-charge of intensive care unit (ICU) of I.G.District hospital Seoni (MP). Later she worked as a consultant anesthesiologist and intensivist in several private facilities in Nagpur. and at Govt Superspeciality Hospital, Nagpur as cardiac anaesthesiologist. She received training in management of critically ill patients and acquired skills for performing echocardiography at Govt Superspeciality Hospital attached to GMC Nagpur and in cardiac anaesthesia at Escorts Heart Institute and research centre New Delhi. She rejoined MGIMS in September 2004 as professor of Anaesthesiology.

Dr Sudha Jain leads a team from her department for conducting a collaborative program, Emergency Obstetric care (EmOC) and Life Saving Anesthetic Skills (LSAS). These programs help medical officers in Maharashtra acquire such skills in Anaesthesiology and Obstetrics that promote safer deliveries and reduce maternal mortality. A post graduate teacher and an examiner in various universities and National board of Examinations, Dr Sudha Jain has presented papers and chaired scientific sessions in regional, national and international conferences and workshops and has published papers in the national and international Anaesthesiology journals. She has also delivered talks in CMEs related to Anaesthesiology, critical care and pain. She is a life member of Indian Society of Anaesthesia (ISA), Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM), International Association for the Study of Pain (ISSP) and Indian Medical Association (IMA). As a convener of Kasturba Society’s breast cancer club, she also works for early detection of breast cancer.
