Foundation Day Function

Foundation Day Function

12th September. The hallowed auditorium of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences witnessed yet another annual function on the eve of foundation day of the institute. Dr Ved Prakash Mishra, Chancellor, KIMS, Karad and a member of Kasturba Health Society was the chief guest of the function. Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society), Dr KR Patond (Dean, MGIMS), Dr SP Kalantri (Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital), Dr Satish Kumar (Officer Incharge, Students’ Council), Mr Akshay Yadav (General Secretary, Students’ Council) together with faculty, staff and parents gathered together to commemorate the day.

On 11th September 1964, Kasturba Health Society was formed to manage the hospital. Since then every year, this day is celebrated as the foundation day of the institute. The institute has always been an epitome of success and achievements and hence on this auspicious day, the institute bestow the awards into the deserving hands every year.

The annual day programme started with the garlanding of Ba, Bapu and Behenji’s portraits. The melody of the invocation song filled up the auditorium as the dignitaries lighted up the lamp. The traditional welcome of the guests with sutgundi (Khadi-thread) marked the beginning of the function. Dr Patond welcomed the audience and presented the academic report of the year 2016-17. Inauguration of the state-of-art Operation Theatre Complex and Mother and Child Healthcare wing were amongst the other points covered in his speech. Dr Garg delivered the presidential address in absentia of Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President, Kasturba Health Society). Mr Akshay presented the students’ council report.

Release of Shushruta magazine in the hands of learned Dr VP Mishra marked another highlight of the day.  Dr Sonia Jain (In-charge, Students’ Council) along with Vidit Panchal (editor, Sushruta) were also present during the release.

Dr VP Mishra felicitated the students with applause as the students walked up the stage to collect medals for their academic performances. He congratulated students and handed over the medals, appreciation certificates and cash prizes to them. In his speech Dr Mishra referred to a quote – life is a sentence; punctuate it. He urged the audience to make one’s life worth of inverted commas rather than having a full stop or a question mark at the end. “If only you change ‘can I’ with ‘I can’ attitude, the success comes to you”, he added.

Students looked quite thrilled with all the words of appreciation and medals in their names. When asked how the weight of trophy feels in hands, a proud mother of two toppers shed a tear as she replied, “ I am very happy to see my daughters climbing onto the ladder of success. I am grateful to the institute for grooming their talents and thereby helping them in achieving their goals.” The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Dr AM Tarnekar (In-charge Cultural).
