Orthopedic Conclave - An Alumni meet

‘Orthopaedic Conclave 2018-Vision 2050’ the first ever alumni meet was organized by the Department of Orthopaedics, MGIMS on 27th January 2018. At the inaugural ceremony, Dr. KR Patond Director professor Orthopaedics and MGIMS, Sevagram welcomed all the Alumni at their Alma mater. He provided snapshot of services provided by MGIMS in general and Department of Orthopaedics in particular. He also communicated magnanimous work done by Department of Orthopaedics in patient care since its inception. Guest of Honor Dr. BS Garg, Secretary MGIMS, Sevagram stressed on better utilization of our esteemed Alumni in setting up Standard Orthopaedic Module which will be an epicenter of excellence in Central India. Dr. Kalantri, Medical Superintendent extended his best wishes to the conclave through his message. 

Conclave was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. V.T. Ingalhalikar, Prof of Ortho Surgery and Director, Spine Clinic, Jupiter Hospital. He spoke eloquently about how he got impressed with Nation’s first Rural Medical Institute and its impact. He was delighted to see variety of surgeries in great numbers being carried out in the Department of Orthopaedics.  He further added importance and threats of modern robotics use in Orthopaedics.

Shri Dhirubhaiji Mehata, President, Kasturba Health Society, Sewagram Presided over the function and delighted to see Alumni back to their Alma Mater and greeted them whole heartedly. He revealed how Orthopaedics has metamorphosed from Conventional to Modern Robotics in alleviating patient’s maladies. Dr. CM Badole revealed prime goal behind this agglomeration and objective of this Meet. He described how important is having a Guru in life. He expressed his gratitude towards Badi- Behanji who is pioneer of this Institute and all the teachers at MGIMS.

Later Chief Guest Dr. VT Ingalhalikar released Souvenir-A colossus of memories of Alumni. Shri Dhirubhaiji Mehta released workshop brochure of All India Post Graduate Instructional Course- A dream Project by MGIMS, Alumni which will materialize from 2019.

In the Orthopaedics Conclave welcome address was given Dr. P.T. Raut senior most Alumni, MGIMS Orthopaedics and notable surgeon from Chandrapur. He talked about the need of platform for alumni, young post graduate and junior faculty at their Alma-Mater. Academic session was introduced by Dr. SK Srivastava eminent spine surgeon, HOD Department of Orthopaedics, KEM Hospital, Mumbai. Dr. VT Ingalhalikar disclosed the scope of spine surgery and its future range.  Dr. JA Pachore, Director of Replacement Unit, Shalby Hospital, Ahmedabad presented comprehensive journey of joint replacement in India and its subsequent odds for next generation. Dr. SS Babhulkar, Director Sushrut Hospital, Research Centre & Postgraduate Institute of Orthopaedics, Past President Indian Orthopaedic Association spoke on growth of Truma care and challenges ahead. Dr AK Jain, Director Professor & Head of Orthopaedics, University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi leading figure in Orthopaedic Research emphasized importance of research in field of Orthopaedics. He stressed that teaching and research go hand in hand—that success in one depends on success in the other—and  modern Institute must do both well. He also believed that sharing our knowledge and discoveries would help make the world a better place.

Dr. KK Aggarwal, Padmashri Awardee, immediate President IMA was overwhelmed to return back to his Alma Mater. He acknowledged role of Indian Medical Association in medical education and Profession. Dr. Pramod Jain, Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, MGIMS, Sevagram extended his vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, eminent guests, speakers, faculty MGIMS and all the alumni who made this meet happen. Meet was concluded with National Anthem.

In the Afternoon Session Dr. CM Badole, Professor Orthopaedics provided rise of department since its inception. He expressed his gratitude towards his teachers at Department of Orthopaedics. He specially mentioned the role of Dr. Kush Kumar in setting up and Dr KR Patond in shaping of the Department. Dr KR Patond was greeted with standing ovation by All Orthopaedics Alumni who gathered to express their gratitude towards him. Dr CM Badole also provided future roadmap of Vision-2050. Distinguished Alumni gathered from all over the globe were felicitated by Prof. Dr. KR Patond.

Prior to Conclave on 26th January 2018 Cultural night-Swarandawan was hoisted by Department of Orthopaedics. Dr. Vikas Aamte was introduced by Dr. Ulhas Jajoo. In his speech he emphasized on the services provided for socially disadvantaged people at Anandwan, Warora. Dr Vikas Amte was felicitated by Shri. Dhirubhaiji Mehta. Dr Vikas amte was overwhelmed with the love showered by MGIMS, Sevagram. He also expressed his views on Music as a therapy for disabled.

Swaranandwan-Cultural program is novel in its structure. Nearly 100 socially disadvantaged but specially abled artists showed their skill in the Cultural Fiesta. Gathering was enchanted by their performance and skill.

On the 27th January 2018 eve Cultural night was organized by Dept Of Orthopaedics, MGIMS Sevagram. Eminent Orthopaedician from Yavatmal Dr. Anup Kothari mesmerized the gathering by his singing. It was also an opportunity for our Alumni to show their skill which was fairly appreciated by everyone. Dr Anup Kothari was felicitated by Dr. CM Badole and everyone thanked Dr. Anup for sharing his precious time with them.
