Workshop on Suture techniques and Basic Lab skills held

Department of Surgery organized a hands on training workshop in suture techniques and basic lab skills on 18th and 19th Dec 2018. Postgraduates from Department of Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT and OBGY participated in the workshop.

The workshop was Inaugurated by Dr N. Gangane, (Dean MGIMS), in presence of Dr R Narang (Emeritus Professor of Surgery), Dr Poonam Verma (Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology), Dr D Gupta (Head of Surgery) , Dr PS Nagpure (Head of ENT), Dr BK Mehra (Professor of Surgery), and faculty from participating departments.  The participants were trained in basic suture techniques, stapler devices, vascular and intestinal anastomosis, tendon repairs, and residents of gynecology were exclusively trained in episiotomy and perineal tear repairs as well.

The workshop was held in collaboration with Ethicon Institute of Surgical Education, Mumbai. A mobile skill lab, incorporated in a bus travelling all over Maharashtra, training residents of surgical departments of various medical colleges reached MGIMS on 18th December. The mobile bus with modern mobile set up is aiming to enhance the surgical skills of doctors, nurses, and para medical staff to address the demands of today's health care delivery system and provide better outcomes to patients of India.

Participants from each department praised the effort by Surgery department and requested for such workshops every year. The department has conducted 4 such workshops in last 8 years.

Dr Dilip Gupta, Professor and Head Surgery, Dr BK Mehra, Professor in Surgery were the master trainers for the workshop.
