A CME on Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) & Vector Borne Diseases was organized by ICMR –NIV Japanese Encephalitis Epidemiology Project being run by Departments of Community Medicine, Medicine, Microbiology & Pediatrics of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram on 1st June, 2019. This one day was a joint venture of MGIMS and District Health Services, Wardha. The CME was targeted for government medical officers of eight districts of Maharashtra included in the JE project and private practitioners of Wardha town.

A total of 82 medical officers, 10 medical students and 36 nursing students participated in the activity. The CME was inaugurated by Dr Nitin Gangane, Dean MGIMS; Dr Ajay Dawale, District Health Officer, Wardha; Dr Purushottam Madawi, Civil Surgeon, Wardha and Dr Mrs Pratibha Narang, Emeritus Professor, Microbiology, MGIMS. The speakers included experts from national institute, centre of excellence and medical colleges working on AES. Initial part of CME was directed towards epidemiology of AES and vector borne diseases in India covered by Dr Abhishek Raut, Associate Professor, Community Medicine, MGIMS and epidemiology of AES and vector borne diseases in Wardha delivered by Dr Vinit Zalake, Epidemiologist, Wardha District.  AES in children was dealt by Dr. Vijay Kumar, Prof. & Head, Dept. of Pediatrics, Kakatia Medical College, Warangal and AES in adults by Dr Jyoti Jain, Prof. & Head, Dept. of Medicine, MGIMS. Laboratory diagnosis of vector borne diseases with special reference to AES was covered by Dr. Shilpa Tomar, Scientist B, Dep. Of Epidemiology, ICMR- NIV, Pune and imaging in AES was covered by Dr. Dhananjay Ghodke, Dept. of Radiodiagnosis, MGIMS . A special lecture on scrub typhus in Vidarbha was delivered by Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary, Prof. & Head, Veterinary Public Health and In charge Centre of Excellence in One Health, Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur.  Dr Jayant Makrande was observer on behalf of Maharashtra Medical Council that had granted 2 Credit Points for the CME. The proceedings were conducted by Dr Ruchita Attal, Assitant Professor, Microbiology, MGIMS. Eminent personalities that attended CME were Dr R Narang, Senior Consultant, Surgery, MGIMS, Dr AP Jain, Senior Consultant, Medicine, MGIMS Sevagram Dr Ashok Mehendale, Prof & Head, Community Medicine, MGIMS , Dr Bhavana Lakhkar, Professor & Head, Dept. of Paediatrics, JNMC Sawangi, Dr Milind Kamble, Professor & Head, Pediatrics, SVN Government Medical College, Yavatmal and Dr Atul Tayade, Professor & Head, Radiodiagnosis, MGIMS Sevagram. Dr Rahul Narang, Principal Investigator of ICMR Japanese Encephalitis project and professor of Microbiology was the organizing secretary of the CME.
