Graduation Ceremony for 2014 Batch held

29 February 2020. Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram hosted the Graduation Ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of 65 graduating students from the Batch of 2014. Chief Guests Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President, Kasturba Health Society) and Shri PL Tapadia (Trustee, Kasturba Health Society), Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society), Dr NM Gangane (Dean, MGIMS), Dr SP Kalantri (Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital), faculty, staff, residents, under graduate students and proud parents gathered at the newly built auditorium to witness the powerful moment.

The ceremony started with the traditional invocation song, garlanding of Bapu, Ba and Badi Behenji’s portraits, lightning of the ceremonial lamp and honoring dignitaries with soot-gundi.  In his Welcome Speech, Dr Gangane acknowledged the effort of students as well as their parents for achieving the big feat. “You have lived the best 5 years of your life. Medicine requires lifelong learning and the learning curve is only going to get steeper”, he suggested.  He also praised the class’s effort for indulging themselves in many social activities. “We are proud of having you as the ambassadors of MGIMS”, he added.

Dr Garg congratulated the class and said, “Wherever you go, do remember the tradition and values that MGIMS has inculcated in you. Work hard as you unfold the next chapter of your life and raise the name of your alma mater higher”.

Shri PL Tapadia delivered the Presidential Speech and addressed the gathering. “MGIMS - the launching point in your career- has equipped you with abound knowledge and skills”. “Live upto the values MGIMS strove to teach you in these five and a half years and make us prouder”, he added. “As you leave the campus, expect the challenges. I am sure with the skills you have been imparted, you shall gracefully steer through the hurdles and reach the pinnacle”, said Dr Satish Kumar (In-Charge of Students’ Council and the face behind the event) while proceeding the distribution of certificates.

Shri Dhirubhai Mehta awarded the degrees to the graduating class. The atmosphere was charged with emotions and excitement as the students donning graduation regalia stepped up the podium to collect their degrees. The class of 2013 also swore to the Hippocratic Oath before their peers, family, friends, and mentors. “The oath is not the rite of passage, nor an obligation but a strong reminder of humanity, compassion, and empathy at point of care”, reminded Dr Kalantri beckoning the class to become doctors that the society would be proud of.

Shri Dhirubhai Mehta congratulated the class on their momentous day. “Let us not be satisfied by what we have but strive for better”, he guided. “ May Gandhiji's dream for health be fulfilled by each one of you. Wherever you go, your  home shall always remain in Sevagram”, he added. He also proudly shared the many accomplishments that MGIMS has earned in last few years. 

Dr Vinod Shende (Associate Professor of Physiology and Co In-Charge, Cultural Programme) proposed the vote of thanks. 2017 Batch coordinated the event.
