MGIMS administers its first COVID Vaccine

MGIMS administers its first COVID Vaccine

On 16th January 2021, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Sevagram participated in India’s largest vaccination drive and administered the first shot of vaccine against Covid-19. As per the directives of Govt. of India, the first phase of vaccination is being provided to the frontline healthcare workers.

MGIMS is one of the six centers in Wardha district to administer the Covidshield vaccine. This vaccine is developed by the University of Oxford and  AstraZeneca and manufactured by Serum Institute of India. The institute shall be inoculating the Covidshield vaccine to its healthcare workers. 100 junior and senior residents of 2018 and 2019 batches have been identified for the initial roll out on day one.

Soon after the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi flagged off the pan India rollout of Covid-19 vaccination drive, the first shot was given to Dr Divya Chaudhary (Resident of Anesthesia). All the recipients of this vaccine are getting themselves registered themselves on the CoWIN digital platform. Following the registration, the beneficiary identity is verified at site and the vaccine is administered intramuscular.

“It is a great day for MGIMS and we are excited to participate in this vaccination drive against Covid-19”, said Dr Arjun Jakasania (Assistant Nodal Officer of COVID-19 vaccination drive and Assistant Professor of Community Medicine). “We are monitoring the beneficiaries for any possible side effects of the vaccine”, said Dr Samir Yelwatkar (Nodal Officer of COVID-19 vaccination drive and Professor of Medicine)

“We are taking all safety measures and adhering to the guidelines suggested by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare India”, said Dr NM Gangane (Dean, MGIMS). We have included our residents for the initial most roll out of the vaccine. The next list of beneficiaries shall be generated by the CoWIN application”, Dr Gangane added.

“MGIMS has been working tirelessly against Covid for the past ten months. With this vaccine we hope to have a brighter year ahead”, said Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society). “Our team has shown exemplary devotion in caring for patients during the pandemic. We are happy to be a part of the largest vaccination drive”, said Dr SP Kalantri (Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital)
