MEU MGIMS organizes revised Basic Course Workshop

The Medical Education Unit of MGIMS Sevagram conducted a revised Basic Course Workshop on Medical Education Technology for full-time faculty from 10-12 January 2022. The course was approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and supervised by the Nodal Centre at JNMC Sawangi. A total of 30 medical teachers from preclinical, para clinical and clinical disciplines participated in the highly interactive three-day workshop. Dean MGIMS, Dr Nitin Gangane inaugurated the workshop. Dr Prakash Mohite from JNMC Sawangi was appointed as the observer from the Nodal Centre.

In view of the shift to competency-based medical education (CBME) launched by the NMC, the workshop dealt with newer modes of interactive teaching and workplace based assessment. The need to shift to CBME was discussed. Participants were given hands-on experience of skills teaching and assessment. They participated in newer interactive methods of teaching such as the jigsaw method, and brainstormed on how flipped classrooms were the need of the hour. Special sessions on the AETCOM module to teach attitudes, ethics and communication skills, and how to promote self-directed learning were conducted. A session on educational networking saw students and faculty sharing their inspiring experiences.

The participants were effusive in their appreciation of the organization of the workshop. They said that the manner in which the MEU facilitators created a congenial environment for learning was commendable. The design of the workshop sessions gave them ideas of how to make their teaching sessions fun for the students.

The MEU team which conducted this workshop comprised of Dr VB Shivkumar, Dr Subodh S Gupta, Dr Smita SIngh, Dr Anshu, Dr Dilip Gupta, Dr Jyoti Jain, Dr Vijayshri Deotale, Dr Bharati Taksande, Dr Atul Tayade, Dr Jwalant Waghmare, Dr Sonia Jain, Dr Abhishek Raut, Dr Ruchi Kothari, Dr Pradeep Bokariya, Dr Pooja Batra, Dr Devesh Gosavi, and Dr Smita Jategaonkar.
