On 07th October 2022, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Sevagram celebrated its Foundation Day to mark the 53 years of existence of the institution par excellence. Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President, Kasturba Health Society) was the chief guest of the function. The event was graced by Shri PL Tapadia (Vice- President, Kasturba Health Society), Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society), Dr NM Gangane (Dean, MGIMS), Dr SP Kalantri (Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital), Dr Satish Kumar (Officer In-charge, Students’ Council). With over 200 students, faculty, staff, parents and honourees present, the institute celebrated its annual day programme in the new auditorium.
“MGIMS has been at the forefront of providing quality medical education in the country for more than five decades now. A commitment to excellence, community engagement and exemplary research makes MGIMS one of the most respected medical schools in the country. The untiring effort of our faculty and staff, our infrastructure, library, museums, diagnostic and skill laboratories bring us to success,” said Dr Gangane in his welcome speech. He presented the Annual Report of the year 2021-22. GOI adoption of the Covid Checklist prepared by the Dept of Community Medicine, Socially Accountable award to MGIMS by TDFH, Rolling out dept of Community Medicine’s AARAMBH program throughout Maharashtra, Visit of Satguru from Sathya Sia Baba Trust, amongst other departmental achievements were covered in his speech.
The dignitaries on dais felicitated the students and staff with medals, appreciation certificates and cash prizes for their academic and exemplary performances. In his Presidential address Shri Dhirubhai Mehta laid emphasis on Gandhian values and principles. “Gandhi remains relevant today and forever”, he said while urging the gathered audience to follow the Gandhian preaching.
“I congratulate all the honourees who have brought laurels to the institute in the areas of academics, sports, and social events. Our institute promotes a healthy and fairly competitive environment which helps students realize their true potential. I am happy to see them achieving their goals and bringing glory for the institute”, said Shri Tapadiya.
Dr Kanchan Mohod (Associate Professor of Biochemistry) conducted the award distribution ceremony.
