E-rickshaw service rolled out at Kasturba Hospital, Sevagram

Kasturba Hospital, Sevagram recently started a free E-rickshaw service for needy patients to ply across various hospital facilities on the premises. The hospital has received 5 battery-operated ‘e-rickshaws from generous funding by Mahapareshan, Maharashtra Rajya Mumbai.

The E-rickshaw service was inaugurated by Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President, Kasturba Health Society) in the presence of Shri PL Tapadiya (Vice-President, Kasturba Health Society), Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society), Dr AK Shukla (Dean, MGIMS), Dr Poonam Varma (Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital), Dr Ramesh Pandey (Deputy Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital), Mr G Deo (Office Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital) and other staff.

“Kasturba Hospital takes the initiative of providing free e-rickshaw service for the convenience of patients and attendants. The e-rickshaw shall ply between the entrance of the hospital and OPD complexes”, informed Dr Poonam Shivkumar (Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital). She asked the needy patients to avail the benefits of the service.

“This new facility will help critically ill patients transferred, especially those who come from the Emergency department to be transferred to the intensive care unit and other departments spread across the sprawling campus. The move is expected to offer relief to attendants, who face difficulties in shifting the patient undergoing treatment. Out of the 5 e-rickshaws procured, three have been modified with the roof for patients use while two are used for carrying goods like medicines and other indents”, informed Dr Ramesh Pandey. He also acknowledged the contribution of Dr SP Kalantri (Dir-Professor of Medicine and former MS), whose idea materialized and presented the hospital with these e-rickshaws.
