MGIMS Celebrates Graduation Ceremony and Annual Day

On a joyous and momentous occasion, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Sevagram, celebrated its Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony with great enthusiasm and pride. The event, held on September 27th, 2023, marked the celebration of the academic excellence of the graduating students and symbolized the culmination of the educational journey of the 2017 Batch at MGIMS. Shri Dhirubhai Mehta (President, Kasturba Health Society), Shri PL Tapadia (Vice-President, Kasturba Health Society), Dr BS Garg (Secretary, Kasturba Health Society), and Dr AK Shukla (Dean, MGIMS) along with faculty, staff, students, parents, and honourees were present at the occasion.

The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome by Dr Shukla, who expressed his heartfelt congratulations to all students for their hard work and dedication. In his opening address, he emphasized the importance of quality education in the making of good doctors. “We are ecstatic to witness the blossoming of the 2017 batch in all shades and hues. This achievement is a testament to the collective hard work of our dedicated teachers and students over the years”, said Dr Shukla, urging the graduates to uphold the values of compassion and empathy imbibed at MGIMS.

Distinguished dignitaries on the dais felicitated outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students, recognizing their academic prowess with medals, certificates of appreciation, and cash prizes. The auditorium thundered with applause as Dr Kanchan Mohod (Cultural In-Charge of Students' Council and Professor of Biochemistry, MGIMS) announced Mr Saransh Mourya as the Overall Topper of MBBS l, ll and lll and Final years.

The dignitaries also awarded the degree certificates to the new doctors, symbolizing the successful completion of their medical education at MGIMS. The atmosphere was charged with emotions and excitement as the students donned graduation regalia walked up to the stage and collected their degrees and certificates. The class of 2017 swore to the Hippocratic Oath attributed to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates before their peers, family, friends, and mentors. Dr. Dilip Gupta (Head of Surgery, MGIMS) administered them the famous oath. “The oath is a strong reminder that the doctors must serve mankind unconditionally and teach the secrets of medicine to the next generation”, reminded Dr Gupta.

The Chief Guest of the function, Shri Dhirubhai Mehta, addressed the departing batch with confidence in their ability to uphold ethical values and principles learned at MGIMS. “At MGIMS, we expose our students with both - hands-on learning and technology-aided learning like smart classrooms, virtual dissection, and skill laboratories, along with ample opportunities to sharpen research minds. He reaffirmed MGIMS's commitment to producing skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals poised to make a positive impact on society.

Dr Rahul and Dr Stuti, representing the 2017 batch, took the opportunity to reflect and reminisce about their academic journey at MGIMS. “6 years back, we all (2017 batch) saw a dream of becoming healers fuelled by a commitment of making a positive impact in the lives of others” said Dr Rahul. “The memories of the orientation camp and the lessons learned there shall always be etched in our lives”, reflected Dr Stuti.
