The Department of Dentistry was established in 1970. The Department was shifted to the new hospital building in 1976. The Department has established its work in Dentistry in this region and its mission is ‘Oral health care for all and accessiblity to the services with emphasis on primary care for rural community’. It caters to needs of poor and needy patients for their dental aliments and also provides specialized care pertaining to pathologies involving oral cavity and care of maxilla-facial trauma. Facilities are now available for treatment of gum diseases and correction of misaligned teeth.

SERVICE

The Department not only offers quality basic dental care to the rural and urban population but also provides specialized care such as minor oral surgeries, endodontic treatment, crowns and bridges, aesthetic/tooth coloured restoration, gingival surgeries, smile correction (full mouth rehabilitation), Pediatric dentistry and specialized prostheses for reconstruction of maxillofacial defects. It also provides services for some medical conditions at subsidized and affordable cost.

Speciality orthodontic clinic has been established for the correction of misaligned teeth with recently developed, advanced techniques, for the prevention and interception of potential tooth and jaw size discrepancy. A speciality clinic for oral pre-cancer/ cancer detection along and prevention has been started. Recently, the scope of services has been expanded with the availability of ceramic crowns and bridges. The highly aesthetic zirconia crowns have been introduced through outsourcing from some affiliated laboratories.
