SERVICE

The Department provides services to patients through the Reproductive Biology Lab which was established in 1971. Since then, the lab has been improved and equipped with latest diagnostic tools. Counseling is also done to the infertile couples. Further in 2002, the Neurophysiology lab was started with Nerve Conduction and Evoked Potential studies. Patients from various clinical departments such as Orthopedics, Medicine, ENT, Eye and Pediatrics are being referred for various neurophysiological investigations. An ICVG laboratory, which has the facility of non-invasive cardiac output and blood flow measurement has been established. Vasomon’ (peripheral blood flow monitor) was also included in the same laboratory in 2010. The facility for computerized pulmonary function tests is also available. Since 2010, a sleep lab has been set up in the Department where sleep related problems are being evaluated.

EDUCATION

The faculty of the Department encourages students to prepare charts and posters pertaining to practicals, especially clinical ones. Group discussions are introduced enabling the weaker and shy students to help them get rid of their inhibition and to come up in the forefront. OSPE is being used as an innovative method for teaching and formative assessment in practicals. Since 2011, the Department has started organizing intradepartmental Physiology Quiz Competition and selected students are sent to participate in the National Physiology Quiz Competition. The department conducts soft-skill workshops for 1st MBBS students as per MUHS guidelines.

Research

Apart from regular undergraduate and postgraduate activities, there are three funded research projects being carried out in the department.
